A painting created by the well known Honduran painter Sergio Almendarez (Olanchito 1944), is the winning prize of a raffle organized by the Association of Honduran Residents in Mallorca, to cooperate with the people in Honduras who are working hard at reconstructing the devastating damages caused by the two hurricanes that struck the country in November 2020, the IOTA and the ETA.
The oil painting, valued at approximately 900 €, portrays the street of a small Honduran town in the late 40´s. It has been donated by the Honduran-German painter, Sandra J. Carl (www.sandrajcarl.com). The money raised from the sales of the raffle tickets will be donated to a group of humble coffee growers who lost their land, their crops and their homes due to the floods caused by the hurricanes.
One raffle ticket costs 5 € in Europe and 6 US Dollars elsewhere and everybody is invited to participate. The winning number will be announced on Sunday, the 2nd of May. Those interested in buying tickets may call or send a WhatsApp message on +34 692 316 180.

ETA and IOTA were two hurricanes that affected more than 3 million people in all of Central America. They were particularly devastating on the Atlantic Coast, areas in the west and in the Valley of Sula in Honduras. The damages were considerable and completely destroyed infrastructures and livelihood of thousands of families. The rivers, unable to contain the torrential rains, flooded in rage and swept away everything in their paths. Entire homes, cultivated lands, everything that these people possessed, disappeared, and the victims were left with nothing but their lives. The disaster from these two hurricanes surpassed by far the destructive hurricane Mitch, which hit Honduras in 1998.
“We have great hopes in our hearts that our initiative will be well received and that many, many friends, friends of friends and relatives will rush to buy tickets for this raffle,” says María Sandoval, a member the Association of Honduran Residents in Mallorca. “The cost of the ticket is only $6 or 5€ each (depending on where you live), but if many participate, we will have been able to make a worthy contribution to the cause,” she adds.
